Exercise in the reality of human existance

pick a street corner
and pick an evening with nothing other to do

stand or sit

and watch everyone go by
everyone with somewhere else to go
something else to do
that does not require you

remember you are not important to them
they have no care of you
self-satisfaction is all they seek

but you don't have to participate
resist the temptation to get up
and to do something to distract yourself
from the truth
you are not needed by the masses
you are nothing
useless

do this as long as it takes to accept your place

for me, this practice took about a year

then once you gain an understanding of your value to others

fight it
fight that in yourself
utterly destroy it
rip it to pieces
and start over

stand on that street

and realize one thing
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
and look at every face
every body
every passing entity
they are nothing more
than the manifestation of the desire for love and attention

the rest is up to you
you can figure where this goes
but you can't fully understand it
till you do it

"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"
"this person too desires nothing but love and attention"

or something like that

  1. It's all an illusion, Josh. They love you deeply, they're just as deeply distracted. And there's a good chance they're a precise reflection of you. What do you think about this and the fact that it takes a crisis for people to start pondering observations such as yours?
